Funko Mystery Minis Wonder Woman 84 (Vinyl Figures)

Street Date: 2020-04-19
Price I Paid: $6 each at Target

Once upon a time, Warner Bros. scheduled Wonder Woman 84 to be released in November 2019.  The studio got cold feet and moved it to June 2020 to avoid Disney's Frozen 2 and Star Wars: Episode IX.  However, movie theaters across the world began closing for business in mid-March 2020 due to the COVID-19 pandemic, so Warner delayed WW84 again, this time to August 2020.

Meanwhile, toy companies have already shipped their WW84 merchandise, which started appearing in brick-&-mortar stores this past weekend.  I don't really collect non-Batgirl Funko Pops, but I like the company's Mystery Minis.  They're cute and have much more detail than the product line that made Funko's fortunes.

The WW84 Minis started appearing on eBay Sunday, April 19.  My local Target stores didn't stock them until today, Thursday, April 22.  To the best of my knowledge, Funko didn't create retailer-exclusive variants.

I went to two Target stores this afternoon.  The first had only two loose boxes, which were heavily damaged.  I don't know if someone damaged them in order to avoid getting duplicates because the plastic shrinkwrap was intact (oddly).  The Minis were indeed two of the 1/6-ratio figures (Diana with lasso and Golden Armor standing pose).

At the second location, I found a full case of twelve.  On both the top and bottom layers, the two boxes in the rear face "backwards".

Here are the official ratios:

Based on eBay listings and other online research, Diana in white dress and Barbara Minerva with glasses are not as rare as stated.  They may be 1/18 or even 1/12.  I got both in my case.  Here are the layouts:

Bottom Layer

So, all the 1/6 dupes are paired in the same rows, and all of the 1/6 Dianas are on top.  Flying Golden Armor is easiest to discern because it's the heaviest piece.  I'm surprised that one wasn't the 1/72 instead of the Golden Armor shielded pose figure.

I know some people have complained that there are "so many Dianas" in this Mystery Minis wave, but Funko is probably over-compensating for not making a wave based on the first Wonder Woman movie.  Diana was included in the Batman v. Superman wave even though she had very little screen time.  The three Diana figures had black hair...and were all "commando".  ^_^

"Commando" Wonder Woman

Diana had a much bigger role in Justice League, but Funko made only two figures based on her for that movie's Mystery Minis wave.  The sword-&-lasso figure was a common, while the Mother Box figure was a Hot Topic Exclusive.  She wasn't "commando" this time.

Not "Commando"

Here are some more pictures of the figures that I got in my WW84 case.  The lasso and bracelets poses are welcome changes from previous versions holding swords and/or shields.  Some of these figures may have difficulty standing due to how large the hair pieces are.  Unfortunately, some of the figures have text printed on their jaws instead of the bottoms of their feet.

I don't have any of the 1/36 or 1/72 figures, though I just bought the Diana with book/fossil figure on eBay.  I may buy the others if I see good deals for them.  However, the Golden Armor shielded pose seems repetitive, especially if Diana doesn't wear the armor until the final battle (presumably against Cheetah).  Leather Jacket Barbara...shows the character gaining confidence, but the two figures that I already have represent the beginning and end of her trajectory in the movie.  Maxwell Lord is...a guy in a business suit.

2020-04-25 update:

I went back to the Target that had two loose figures.  This time, they had the case on display with eight boxes.  One of the boxes was damaged, which leads me to believe that the two loose figures I bought almost a week ago were from the same case.  I went ahead and bought the eight that were left.  I got dupes of the 1/6 commons, Diana with bracelets, and Steve Trevor.  However, I also got the 1/36 Diana with book/fossil.

"Fist bump!"
